We understand that unwanted hair can be inconvenient, irritating, even embarrassing. If you’re fed up with treatments that are time-consuming, costly and simply don’t last, we have a solution for you. At Temple Aesthetics in Aberdeen, we offer hair removal using the latest Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology. IPL is a non-invasive treatment that uses high intensity pulses of visible light. Unlike lasers, IPL delivers many wavelengths in each pulse of light instead of just one wavelength. This allows the procedure to target accurately and a greater area. IPL therapy delivers light safely to the chosen area, attacking the hair and hair follicles while leaving the surrounding skin untouched. As the top layer of the skin remains intact, the treatment is performed without downtime.
At Temple Aesthetics, we use Naturalux IPL with its unique frozen head technology, so the treatment is painless as well as highly effective. There are actually two beams of light, one yellow and one red, which together affect both the existing hair and the hair follicles. Naturalux IPL has the internal safety mechanisms required to ensure predictable and safe results. Naturalux IPL must be administered by a qualified practitioner.
IPL treatments can be performed on most parts of the body including the face. With little or no downtime or side effects, there is a very high degree of patient satisfaction with this very predictable and safe type of therapy.
IPL works best at removing hair when it’s in the active growth phase. As not all the hair in the treatment area will be in this phase at the time of treatment, we give a series of treatments (usually 3-6) in order to achieve the desired results. The way hair grows is slightly different for everyone, so we tailor treatments to suit you and your lifestyle.
*Rosacea is a common, chronic condition of the face characterized by redness, flushing, dilated blood vessels and frequently-developing pustules and swelling.

Is treatment painful?
No. A topical anaesthetic can be used but is generally not needed. You may feel quite warm after the procedure.
What is IPL and how does it work?
IPL is the delivery, via a hand piece, of intense pulses of light. Unlike lasers, IPL delivers many wavelengths in each pulse of light instead of just one wavelength. This allows the procedure to target several conditions with each treatment. IPL therapy is non-invasive and non-ablative, meaning that the top layer of the skin remains intact, thus the treatment is performed without downtime. Via the hand piece, light penetrates the tissue and is absorbed by either the blood, when treating vascular lesions, or the melanin, when treating pigmented lesions, damaging them. The body's natural processes then remove the injured tissue with result that the skin has a more even and youthful appearance. During the week after the treatment, sun spots may initially darken but then will flake off and decrease in redness, revealing younger, more vibrant skin.
Is IPL safe?
Yes. The visible light is completely safe so no special precautions are necessary, apart from special light filtering glasses or goggles which are used throughout any treatment.
Is an allergy test necessary?
A test patch can be offered to assess an area before treatment. The cost will be redeemed against your first treatment.
What is the downtime?
There is usually no downtime.
Are there any side effects?
Most clients experience no side effects at all, however, the skin of some clients can become red immediately after treatment and, very rarely, a minor sunburn-like sensation or small blisters can occur. Any side effects usually disappear within hours or 72 hours.
Unlike electrolysis, Naturalux IPL treatment is non-invasive.
Are there different versions of IPL?
Yes, IPL systems vary considerably. Basic systems found in spas and performed by non physicians do not have the necessary power to provide the type of results that more advanced systems are capable of producing. Furthermore, they do not have internal safety mechanisms required to ensure predictable and safe results. We only use Naturalux IPL which must be administered by a qualified practitioner.
Is IPL suitable for all skin?
Treatment should be avoided on skin prone to infection, e.g. herpes, unless a prophylactic course is being undertaken at the same time. Tanning should be avoided prior to the treatment as this may increase the risk of a complication. The risk for side effects in patients that have darker skin types is higher. A history of keloidal scarring also presents a risk for IPL treatment.
What are the contraindications for IPL?
IPL treatments should not be performed on a patient that is pregnant, epileptic or has active cold sores or skin infection. Tanning (including sprays and creams) should be avoided prior to treatment. A history of keloidal scarring may present a risk for IPL treatment.
What skin problems can IPL treat?
Fine lines and wrinkles, pigmented lesions (age spots, liver spots and some birth marks), broken capillaries, sun-damaged skin, spider veins, rosacea, red acne scars, facial redness, vascular lesions, open pores and unwanted hair.
Where can IPL be used?
treatments can be performed on the face, neck, chest and hands.
